1960

Catalogue range: Philatelic Hub PK106–PK121

Pakistan’s 1960 stamp programme was unusually varied, covering defence, territorial representation, refugees, education, agriculture, political reform, medicine, international commerce and Scouting. Armed Forces Day was commemorated through a two-stamp issue. A four-value map series presented Pakistan and its position regarding the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Two stamps supported the United Nations’ World Refugee Year, linking Pakistan’s own experience of mass migration after Partition with an international humanitarian campaign. Further issues celebrated the Golden Jubilee of Punjab Agricultural College at Lyallpur—now the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad—and the centenary of King Edward Medical College in Lahore. Revolution Day stamps highlighted the government’s land-reform programme, while another issue marked a regional meeting connected with the International Chamber of Commerce. The year concluded with a stamp for the Third National Boy Scouts Jamboree in Lahore. Philatelic Hub catalogues the individual issues from PK106 to PK121, with several complete sets separately listed. This broad programme makes 1960 an exceptionally rich category for thematic and historical collectors of early Pakistan postage stamps.
