1957

Catalogue range: Philatelic Hub PK87–PK94

Pakistan’s 1957 stamps commemorated the first anniversary of the Republic, the centenary of the 1857 struggle against British rule, and the tenth anniversary of independence. The Republic Day issues include designs featuring the Karnaphuli Paper Mill, pottery and an orange tree, combining constitutional celebration with symbols of industry, craftsmanship and agriculture. A two-stamp set marked one hundred years since the uprising of 1857, described on the stamps as the Centenary of the Struggle for Independence. The Pakistan flag and related national imagery linked that historic resistance with the later creation of an independent state. The tenth-anniversary series returned to themes of industrial growth, presenting Pakistan’s economic development as an achievement of its first decade. These issues are especially useful for thematic collections devoted to independence movements, republican government, industry and national anniversaries. Philatelic Hub catalogues the individual 1957 stamps from PK87 to PK94, with complete-set products maintained separately. As a group, the year’s stamps provide a visual summary of Pakistan’s attempt to connect historical memory, constitutional identity and economic progress during the tenth year following independence.
