1951

Catalogue range: Philatelic Hub PK55–PK62

Pakistan’s 1951 postage stamps commemorated the fourth anniversary of independence through a substantial nine-stamp series issued on 14 August. The designs combined national symbolism with themes of education, progress and modern communication. Prominent subjects include a decorative jar, an aircraft with an hourglass, acanthus ornamentation, and an architectural arch containing the Lamp of Learning. These images reflected the aspirations of a young nation seeking advancement through knowledge, organisation and improved communications. Several denominations and colour variations enabled the stamps to meet different postal rates, while the series’ unified anniversary theme gave it a strong visual identity. Some values were also produced with “SERVICE” overprints for official government correspondence, adding another specialised collecting area. Historically, 1951 was an important political year: Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated in Rawalpindi on 16 October, profoundly affecting the country’s early leadership. Philatelic Hub catalogues the principal ordinary stamps as PK55 to PK62, including the recognised PK57a variety, while a complete-set listing is maintained separately. This attractive issue is a key component of any early Pakistan collection.
